2023 BMW X5, All you want to know & watch about a Great Car
It’s been a few years already since B M W introduced the current-generation X5. Shown in 2018 for the 2019 model year, the G05 version of the Sports Activity Vehicle has become a popular nameplate for the German automaker.
BMW wants to keep the demand for the X5 alive by introducing a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) for the model. The facelifted model has been spotted testing several times before, wrapped in camouflage front and back. And now, YouTube’s CarSpyMedia caught the five-seat high-rider while making rounds at the Nurburgring.
Just like the one you see in these spy images, the BMW X5 facelift caught at the ‘Ring has its front and rear fascias all covered up, signifying that the automaker is giving the model an update on these areas. We’re expecting a narrower set of headlights, while a restyled bumper should also be on the agenda. Meanwhile, the grille could also get an adjustment, though we’re not expecting any increase in size… yet. Meanwhile, the rear end, despite the heavy concealment, could only get an update on its taillights.
However, the bevy of updates will more likely be seen in the cabin to allow for the latest technology, such as the BMW’s iDrive 8 and its large dash-mounted dual-screen display.
In the powertrain department, details are scarce at this point but we’re not expecting any dramatic changes. The high-performance X5 M will still use the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that puts out 617 horsepower (460 kilowatts) in the Competition guise.
Speaking of the M, the X5 M has also been spotted while testing before, which means the performance model will likewise receive design updates.
The launch date for the updated B M W X5 hasn’t been announced yet. However, we’re expecting a global reveal towards the latter part of the year, just in time for the 2023 model year.
BMW’s largest and most luxurious SUV, the X7, was refreshed just yesterday but we know an update is currently under development for the X5 and X6 family, too. We’ve seen prototypes of both models – in both standard and M forms – testing on public roads, and now it’s time to take a look at what hides underneath the camouflage. Of course, it’s too early for an official preview, which means all we can do for now is share detailed unofficial renderings.
In this case, our friends from Kolesa.ru have these new virtual drawings unhiding the design changes of the X5 LCI. For the uninitiated, LCI stands for Life Cycle Impulse in BMW’s world, or put simply, a mid-cycle refresh. As previewed in these two renderings, the luxury SUV from Bavaria will most likely retain its aristocratic appearance, which will be enhanced by a more refined look for the front fascia.
There, a pair of sleeker new headlights are expected with modified internal LED graphics. Thankfully, the facelift won’t bring an oversized grille or the facelifted X7’s split-headlight layout. Instead, the X5 LCI will keep things simple with just a few minor tweaks, including a more muscular and prominent bumper with larger L-shaped air openings. The lower grille design could also be changed a little.
There are probably going to be even less notable changes at the back, judging by these renderings. The taillights look refreshed with new graphics and the lower section of the bumper where the diffuser sits also appears to be modified. Not much else can be expected as far as the rear end is concerned.
On the tech side, there are rumors about a new V8 engine replacing the long-running N63 engine that has been around since 2008. According to the available information, the new S68 unit will feature the same twin-turbo V8 configuration with a hot-vee layout, but will almost certainly have some sort of electric support. Word on the street is the new motor will be more efficient and slightly more powerful than its predecessor with an expected output of 535 horsepower (399 kilowatts).
Spy Photos: 2023 BMW X5 Facelift likely to get a large curved display
The 2023 BMW X5 Facelift was just spotted in Germany, revealing some new details. For the first time, the spy photographer managed to capture bits of the interior design. And no surprises there: based on these new images, the BMW X5 LCI seems to get the large curved display from recent BMW models. f that’s the case, then the 2023 B M W X5 will also get the latest iDrive 8. The 2023 B M W X5 is due for a facelift refresh in 2023. According to sources, the production cycle in Spartanburg has the 2023 B M W X5 Facelift scheduled for April 2023. That cycle will also apply to the BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe.
Exterior Upgrades
At the front, these new spy photos reveal revised headlights which resemble the design we’ve already seen on the 5 Series facelift. As you’d expect, the kidney grille goes through a facelift as well. It doesn’t seem to have grown in size, but it now inherits the M Performance grille familiar from cars like the Z4 M40i or M340i. One interesting upgrade is the introduction of the illuminated grilles, in similar fashion to the ones found on the B M W X6 already. Other small changes in the X5 and X6 include the M Sport Package which might become standard on the X6.
New Engines
The engine upgrades for the next 2023 B M W X5 Facelift and X6 Facelift are quite significant. Apparently, the lifecycle impulse will bump up the base BMW X5 xDrive40i output to 370 horsepower, which would make the X5 its class leader in horsepower at entry level. The current hybrid BMW X5 xDrive45e will get increased even further to 480 horsepower, borrowing the hybrid drivetrain from the next-generation 7 Series hybrid. One can infer an increase in electric-only range too, extending the already practical 31 mile range.
But some of the most interesting news comes in the form of the dropping of the M50i designation, to be replaced by the “M60i”. And this is accompanied by an engine change too – switching over to the twin-turbocharged S68 that will allegedly also be shared by the next generation M5, X5 M, and X6 M. This will mark the first time in recent memory that B M W puts an S-Series engine (usually reserved for full-blown M cars) into a non-M offering. The S68 is likely to rated at the same 525-545 horsepower and will feature the 48 volt mild-hybrid. We just had the chance to test the new S68 powerplant in the upcoming 7 Series.
The 2023 B M W X5 Facelift is expected to say in production until July 2026 and it will be replaced after by a new generation of X5 models based on the Neue Klasse platform.
