2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T, All you want to know & watch about a Great Car
2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T: The Purists’ Porsche Returns
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is the manual-equipped performance touring 992 you’ve been waiting for.
An actual H-pattern shifter, less weight than the 911 Carrera, and more glorious noise in the cabin—the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T is the 992 that enthusiasts clamor for. A pure driving experience that you and a single occupant can enjoy while putting your skills to the test, all packaged with a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that produces 379 hp and propels it to a 181 mph top speed. It is the purists’ Porsche of the 992 generation.
The original 911T of the late 1960s was a “cheap and cheerful” entry point into the 911 range. More recently, the 991-generation 911 Carrera T applied a slightly different formula, plucking some go-fast bits from elsewhere in the lineup and offering buyers something in between the base Carrera and the higher-performance Carrera S. So what does the Carrera T offer in this latest iteration?
Let’s tackle this in order of what the driver will notice first. The biggest change is the standard seven-speed manual transmission with an actual third pedal on the floor. Yes, the 2023 911 Carrera T comes without PDK as standard. Right behind them, the driver will also see that the rear seat has been deleted. For those that need it, both the PDK and rear seats can be added back on as no-cost options.
The driver sits in four-way Sport Seats Plus and places their hands on the GT Sport steering wheel. Once they are comfortable, they fire up that 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine, which is thankfully louder and has a different tone than the standard Carrera.

It’s not just the Sport Exhaust System that is responsible for the acoustic differences, but also the reduction of sound deadening and thinner window glass. With the addition of a lighter, smaller battery, the 2023 911 Carrera T weighs in at 3,254 pounds—100 pounds less than a 2023 911 Carrera and its standard PDK transmission.
Despite some additional power, 60 mph comes in the same 4.3 seconds as the last generation Carrera T equipped with a manual, and 3.8 seconds with the PDK (0.2 second quicker than the last T). Like its predecessor, it also comes with a standard mechanical limited slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring—which isn’t available on a base Carrera—to make cornering a breeze by applying some brake pressure to the inside wheel.
Handling is improved by the standard Sport Chrono Package, which works in conjunction with the Porsche Active Suspension Management System Sport (not available on the base Carrera, and an option on the Carrera S). This adjustability and mechanical grip works well with the Carrera T’s exclusive 20- and 21-inch titanium gray wheels on 245/35R20 front and 305/30R21 rear tires.
There are also some aesthetic differences between the T and the standard Carrera. First, there are dark gray accents within the cabin of the Carrera T that match well with the matte black trim and high-gloss black inlays. The optional Carrera T Interior Package adds seat belts and stripes on the centers of the seats in Slate Gray or Lizard Green along with decorative stitching and “911” logos in the head rests.
You’ll also get a set of floor mats with logos and stitching in those aforementioned colors. Further interior options include 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats Plus or even lighter Full Bucket Seats (which, if selected, prevent the rear seats from going back in). You can also add leather to the interior of your Carrera T on the door armrests, panels, center console and dashboard.
Outside, the 2023 Carrera T comes standard in black, white, Guards Red, and Racing Yellow along with metallic options of Jet Black, Gentian Blue, Ice Gray, and GT Silver. Optionally, you can get Chalk, Ruby Star Neo, Carmine Red, Shark Blue, or Python Green as special colors. Owners can also now order their Carrera T exterior using Porsche’s Paint to Sample program, which wasn’t offered on the 991.2 generation 911 Carrera T. That’s the only way to get that Gulf Blue color you see in the images Porsche included.

Regardless of the exterior color, you’ll also find contrasting trim on the upper and lower mirror covers and a classic looking decal along the lower edge of the doors. Those and the “911 Carrera T” badge on the decklid are finished off in Agate Gray. Looking down from that badge, you’ll see that the Sport Exhaust System’s tips are finished in a high-gloss black.
Porsche says that the 2023 911 Carrera T will hit U.S. dealers by Spring of 2023 with an MSRP of $118,050—a $10,500 premium over the base Carrera ($107,550) and $6,400 less than the Carrera S ($124,450), and arguably the sweet spot of price and performance of the 992 generation.
2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T Returns to Delight Drivers Who Can’t Afford a GT3 RS
Along with a $118,050 starting price, the 911 Carrera T boasts weight-saving traits and performance-focused hardware.
- The 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T is intended to be an affordable, performance-minded model focused on driver engagement.
- The 911 T only comes as a rear-drive coupe with a back-seat delete, standard manual gearbox, and features not offered on the base Carrera.
- The 2023 Carrera T starts at $118,050, and opting for the PDK dual-clutch automatic or having the rear seat re-installed doesn’t cost extra.
Just because someone’s rich enough to afford a Porsche 911 doesn’t automatically mean they have enough money in the bank to buy a nearly quarter-million-dollar track special like the GT3 RS. Of course, the folks who’d want such a wild, winged thing in the first place are likely the same driving enthusiasts who will get in line for the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T, which returns for the 992 generation as the most cost-effective way (relatively speaking) to get a performance-focused 911.
The Price Is Righ(T)
Starting at $118,050, the new 911 T’s price is right between the base ’23 Carrera ($107,550) and Carrera S ($124,450). Both of those prices are for the coupe because that’s the only body style the T is offered with; there’s no all-wheel-drive option, either. The Carrera T is rear-drive only, and its back seats are removed along with some sound insulation to reduce mass. Don’t worry, though, if you do want the 911’s mostly pointless rear jump seats, Porsche will re-install them free of charge.
The Carrera T’s other weight-saving traits include thinner glass, a smaller battery, and a standard seven-speed manual transmission, all of which Porsche says contribute to the T being 100 pounds lighter than the regular Carrera that’s only offered with the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK). As with the rear-seat delete, the PDK can be had at no extra cost.

Better Parts Than the Base Car
Either gearbox pairs with the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six that’s mounted in the rear of the regular Carrera. Both make 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. Porsche estimates the 911 T will go from zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds (manual) or 3.8 seconds (automatic) on their way to a claimed top speed of 181 mph. We think both acceleration times are conservative, especially since we’ve seen a 2020 911 Carrera with the PDK hit 60 in just 3.2 ticks.
Compared with the regular Carrera, the T has performance hardware that’s not even offered on the base coupe. For instance, every 911 T has a mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche’s torque-vectoring system. It also comes standard with the brand’s active suspension (a.k.a. PASM) with specially tuned dampers. Another feature that’s not available on the Carrera but is optional on the T is rear-axle steering.
A set of grey 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels are also inherited from the Carrera S, with the fronts wearing 245-section-width tires and the backs wearing wide 305s.
Peer Inside the Purist’s 911
The 911 T’s interior isn’t anything to write home about. In base form, its cabin is trimmed with a mix of dark grey, matte black, and glossy black accents (yawn). Its standard front seats only offer four basic adjustments. Thankfully, these buckets can be upgraded to add 18-way adjustments. If those are too luxurious for a car that’s committed to lightness, Porsche offers a set of carbon-fiber seats that can’t be had if you want back seats because of what we just talked about.
For those who do want a fancier interior for their Carrera T, there are options to do so. They include a package that adds stitched upholstery, 911 logos on the headrests, and seat belts in Slate Gray or spicy Lizard Green; either of those colors can be applied to stripes on the seat inserts, too. There’s also an option to get grey or green logos and stitching on the floor mats as well as a leather wrap on the dash, doors, and center console. Porsche hasn’t said how much any of these extras cost, however.
One other notable thing about the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T is that it’s the first one that can be customized with the company’s cool Paint to Sample program, which includes another 110 paint options. The coupe is slated to start hitting dealer showrooms in the U.S. in the spring of next year.
