2024 Mercedes AMG EQE SUV, All you want to know & watch about a Great Car
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV Packs a 677-HP Punch Swung at Tesla
AMG’s first electric SUV looks to bring the fight to Tesla with big power.
Mercedes-AMG isn’t just transitioning to the electric future, it’s kicking the door down. Today the performance brand unveiled the latest Mercedes EQ-branded electric product that it’s extracted more performance from and slapped its famous three letters on: The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE battery-electric SUV.
This is the first battery-electric performance SUV produced by AMG, following on the heels of the larger EQS AMG and EQE AMG sedan and marks its direction going forward. AMG is known for bringing cartoonish levels of performance to Mercedes-Benz vehicles for those who enjoy melting tires as a weekly pastime. As electric vehicle mandates draw ever closer, AMG is taking its hot-rodding approach to the battery-powered future.

Two Motors, Lots Of Horsepower
Instead of a massively powerful V-8 engine, nestled under the hood the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE is one of two dual electric motors—the other powers the rear axle from the rear. Combined the two electric motors produce 617 hp and 701 lb-ft, substantial figures for a vehicle this size.
The electric motors are larger than those found in the non-AMG Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and work with a more powerful inverter. Even more power is available if the AMG Dynamics Plus Package is optioned. That kit includes “Race Start” launch control, which temporarily boosts the SUV’s output to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque for eye-popping standing starts.
AMG claims that, when using launch mode, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE can get from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. That would put the EQE AMG in the same performance realm as Tesla’s Model Y Performance, which reached 60 mph in 3.5 seconds in our testing. Standard steel brakes bring the electric SUV to a stop but the front brake rotors can be optioned up to carbon ceramic units.
Power comes from a 90.6-kWh battery made from 360 pouch-type cells arranged into 10 modules. The battery management system is specific to this AMG variant and can be upgraded via OTA updates, giving the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE a bit of software-defined-vehicle (SDV) flavor. The batteries can handle fast charging rates up to 170 kW and can gain up to 100 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging.
The regenerative brakes are capable of generating up to 260 kW of power to send back into the battery and do most of the work to slow the vehicle down. To keep temperatures in check there is an AMG-specific cooling system for the motors and the batteries.

Drive In Any Mode You Want As Long As It’s Not “Race”
The 2024 Mercedes AMG EQE SUV comes with the brand’s obligatory AMG Ride Control+ system with an air suspension and adaptive damping. In the front is a four-link setup, while the rear is multi-link independent with AMG-specific wheel carriers, suspension links, and anti-roll bars. The dampers are taken from the AMG GT 4-door but with a newer design that reacts faster to road conditions with more adjustability. Mercedes-Benz tells us these dampers will standard issue for all AMG vehicles going forward.
The AMG Dynamic Select function provides the user with five driving modes for the user to select: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. There is no full-time Race mode like in some conventional AMGs, which is a bit odd considering there is that “Race Start” launch control feature, but there is a function that brings up a digitized IWC-branded watch on one of the screens to use as a lap-timer.
Subtle Styling Hides The Electric Beast Within
When looking at the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE from the outside there is nothing particularly aggressive in the styling that gives it away as a performance variant. However, there are plenty of sly cues that this is more than a regular EQE that sharp-eyed onlookers might spot. There are the vertical slats in the dummy grille up front that match AMG’s signature look, while the traditional Mercedes-Benz crest is replaced by an AMG circular crest on the hood.
All exterior plastic pieces have a smooth surface, too, while the plastic on the non-AMG version is textured. That detail might be hard to discern from a distance, but further differentiating the AMG is color-matched body cladding while the non-AMG cladding is black.
A set of 21-inch wheels wrapped in high-efficiency tires (275/40R21) come standard for the electric SUV but larger 22-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport EV high-performance tires (275/35R22) can be had as an option. In both instances, the tires are wider than those found on the base EQE.
Tech Focused Interior, Cushy Trappings
The first thing you’ll notice when opening the door to the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE is that the regular EQE’s front seats have been thrown out in favor of AMG sport seats with individual patterns upholstered in MB-Tex with microfiber and red topstitching. Nappa leather is available as an option for those looking for more traditional materials, and customers who so choose also will have three color packages to pick from.
For those who prefer a futuristic aesthetic, Mercedes-Benz’s tri-display Hyperscreen is an available option. This setup hides three displays behind a long, curved-glass piece that spans nearly the width of the dashboard, lending the impression of a full-width screen. The MBUX software allows the displays to be personalized to the driver and offers up several options for the user’s preferred layout and infotainment suggestions.
If You Have To Ask…
We don’t have a solid release window from Mercedes-Benz nor do we have a price for the AMG EQE SUV. However, we estimate at the time of this article that the MSRP will be in the neighborhood of $100,000, but the real number could be drastically different. Stay tuned for more information once we get our hands on the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE for a first drive.
