2023 Nissan Z Delayed to Summer 2022

Nissan says that the 2023 Z is delayed due to a shortage of semiconductors.

Despite the competition debuts of the new 2023 Nissan Z, the rest of the world is going to have to wait a little longer. We have been able to confirm that the Tochigi, Japan built sports car will be delayed until this summer of 2022. Originally set for a spring release, “unforeseen supply chain issues” are the main cause of the delay and 2022 continues a repeat of 2021, in terms of getting stuff built on time.

In a story that Car and Driver broke, Nissan stated that the Japanese release of the Z was going to be delayed due to a shortage of parts, but they were able to confirm that this was going to affect the U.S. release, as well. We spoke to Nissan directly and were able to learn that the issue is a lack of semiconductors. The Z is also built in the same factory as the long upcoming Ariya EV, which has also been delayed for the same chip supply chain issues. Fortunately, it looks like the delay of the Z will be far, far shorter than the Ariya (which was teased to us back at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Show).

For now, we’ll just have to drool over this 1,300 hp drifting 2023 Nissan Z and the Super GT silhouettes that compete in the Japanese sports car series. However, that patience will pay off. Once it’s finally here, we’ll be able to enjoy its return to turbocharged V-6 glory with its VR30DDTT pumping out nearly 400 hp to the rear wheels.
