BMW M: the XM approaching
BMW M GmbH’s first high-performance hybrid-powered car is completing its development. But BMW M already promises an exceptionally dynamic driving experience.
After the all-electric Performance models i4 M50 and iX M60, the XM will be the first hybrid model in BMW’s sports division. It will combine a gasoline V8 with an electric motor for cumulative torque and power values of 800 Nm and 650 hp, which will pass through the road through a hybrid-specific M xDrive four-wheel drive transmission system.
For their tests on public roads, the development and test engineers have established an exceptionally demanding and varied course profile. The intelligently controlled interaction of the new 8-cylinder engine and the electric motor can thus be tested and refined in a wide variety of conditions: from intermediate sprints on the motorway to winding country roads and city traffic.
Steep mountain passages and narrow roads provide the perfect terrain to demonstrate the driving dynamics potential of the M xDrive system, including electronically controlled differential locking in the rear axle transmission.
With a WLTP electric range of around 80 km, the XM will be able to be driven not only in built-up areas, but also over longer distances in virtually silent cruising mode with no local emissions.
The XM will be equipped as standard with an adaptive M Professional suspension, combined with an electromechanical roll stabilization system with 48 V technology. Integral active steering will also be part of the standard equipment.
