BMW M4 CSL: The legend continues
To mark its 50th anniversary, BMW M GmbH presents the new BMW M4 CSL, inspired by a passion for old-fashioned racing but packed with the most innovative technologies.
Compared to the M4 Competition Coupé, the M4 CSL is 100 kg lighter thanks to carbon bucket seats (-24 kg), the removal of the rear seat (21 kg), carbon ceramic brakes, but also the rims and struts in special alloy (-21 kg), the slightest use of soundproofing materials (-15 kg), the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic components for the roof, hood and trunk (-11 kg), titanium silencer (-4 kg), not to mention several other modifications affecting the grille, taillights, floor mats and elimination of automatic air conditioning (-4 kg).
Under the hood, the engine of the BMW M4 GT3 benefits from an increase in the boost pressure of the two turbochargers from 1.7 to 2.1 bar. It delivers a maximum torque of 650 Nm from 2750 to 5950 rpm, and a maximum power of 550 ps at 6250 rpm. Everything is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic.
Of course, the running gear (adaptive M suspension) has also been largely modified for greater efficiency, while the M Traction Control function allows the driver to set individual intervention thresholds for wheel slip limitation.
In its tests on the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring, the BMW M4 CSL set the fastest lap time for a mass-produced BMW Group car (7 min and 20.207 s). Its acceleration capabilities (3.7 s from 0 to 100 km/h and 10.7 s from 0 to 200 km/h) are equally impressive.
The new BMW M4 CSL will have its world premiere at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (20-22 May 2022). This special edition will be produced in a limited edition of 1,000 copies.
