Disney brings in $125 million in revenue for one of its films online
“Black Widow” has earned $125 million in online revenue, and said the movie, which prompted Scarlett Johansson to file a lawsuit against the company, outperformed other Marvel films. The new figures were revealed in documents filed with the court on Friday, in which Disney demanded that Johansson’s case be referred to arbitration in New York rather than being heard in a civil court in Los Angeles, as the actress wants.
Johansson filed a lawsuit last month alleging that she was deceived about her financial entitlements, after the company released the film in theaters and the Internet platform at the same time, and Johansson asserted that her remuneration package was heavily dependent on bonuses based on ticket sales in theaters. Its launch online has eroded those revenues. Disney objected, saying that the actress had already received $20 million for her work on the film, and in one of the documents submitted, the company said it had offered to include Internet revenue in its bonus accounts, although it was not obligated to do so.
