HEDONIC [H]000 (2022): A MODERN AND MADE IN FRANCE REINTERPRETATION OF THE PORSCHE 911 TARGA TYPE 964
Recreating the Porsche 911 Targa type 964 by doing better than the original, this is the goal of the French company Hedonic Machines with its new restomod project. Unveiled at Le Mans Classic in July 2022, the car that calls itself [H]000 has required no less than three years of work, from design to prototyping to development. The 911 of the early 1990s retains its original line while being modernized.
To create the [H]000, Hedonic Machine completely laid bare the chassis of the 911 Targa type 964. The company says it used “no industrialized process” to design the car, preferring to use advanced craftsmanship, crafts and innovation. The modifications of the body are thus made of aluminum, “with parts formed by hand after making a wooden template”.
A revamped design without distorting the original
Aesthetically, the [H]000 adopts enlarged fenders, new front and rear bumpers, redesigned sills or even a rear diffuser with two exhaust outlets. The fin is also new, as is the targa arch which now includes a braided mesh insert.
A new front and rear light signature
In terms of optics, the front and rear light signature is modernized. Lines come “to highlight the rear lights and inscribe in cross in the front lights” to recall the black crosses in the lights, typical of racing cars. Attention to detail obliges, even the fuel hatch is redesigned inspired by that of the Porsche 911 Speedster Concept car.
When digital replaces analog
The work done to transform this Porsche 911 Targa into an [H]000 also goes through the interior of the car. In particular, Hedonic Machines replaces analog meters with hand-circled screens. The French watchmaking house March Lab signs the on-board watch located to the right of the digital meters.
A Devialet speaker inside
On board the cabin, the aluminum center tunnel is devoid of a button, and the original seats are redesigned. The original mechanical key is replaced by a modern remote control that takes the shape of the car. The sound system is replaced by a Devialet Phantom speaker. And to top it off, the cabin comes with a Leica Q2 camera engraved with the name [H]000.
The famous flat-six wins 125 horsepower
Under the engine hood, Hedonic Machines finally revisits the flat-six 3.6 engine that initially develops 250 horsepower. Disassembled, prepared and reassembled “with specific or new parts”, it now develops 375 horsepower while its displacement amounts to 3.8. This race-type preparation is also aesthetic, the idea being to offer a “visual oxygen” to the engine bay.
The price of the [H]000 created by Hedonic Machines is not communicated at the time of writing.
In brief
