After the Kia EV6 was recalled for a parking brake problem, Hyundai is doing the same for the Ioniq 5. And for good reason: these two cars are identical.

The practice has long been known in the automotive world. In order to save time, but also to achieve substantial economies of scale, manufacturers join forces and share common technical bases, or even develop a single model under a different skin and brands. This is even more so when the manufacturers in question are part of the same group. This is the case of H yundai and K ia with the Ioniq 5 and EV6, which share almost everything that is not seen. Including their software.

Thus, the recall campaign that recently affected the Kia EV6 in Europe and the United States, is now in place for the Ioniq 5, and more particularly for those produced from October 4, 2021 to April 26, 2022. For the time being, only the Ioniq 5s circulating in North America (10,729 copies) need to be updated to the program managing the electric parking brake, but there is no doubt that during this period, copies intended for the European market have also been assembled. If you own a Hyundai Ioniq 5, expect a letter from the brand.
