Kia: New warning systems to improve road safety in Europe
According to the Safety Priority Services program launched by the Dutch government, Kia is currently studying the development of new on-board warning systems that will be integrated with the current systems of Kia vehicles.
In collaboration with Hyundai, TomTom, ANWB, Inrix and Be-Mobile, K i a is exploring the possibility of warning drivers when an emergency vehicle approaches.
When they hear the sirens, drivers don’t always know if the emergency vehicle is approaching or moving away. The new alert system will allow them to know what type of vehicle it is and in which direction it is heading.
Kia is also looking to develop alerts about other types of hazards, including for unexpected and potentially risky situations. For example, motorists could be warned of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, closed traffic lanes and upcoming traffic jams.
These alerts will be in addition to those already provided by infotainment systems in the form of audible, visual and haptic warnings, and will not require any intervention on the part of the driver, allowing him to keep his hands on the wheel.
The Safety Priority Services project will be spread over 3 years, in preparation for the obligation to share data relating to alerts, which will be provided for by a new European regulation from 2025.
