Opel Astra Sports Tourer
Opel Astra Sports Tourer: Good in its time
Thermal, hybrid or electric, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer is part of the long tradition of compact station wagons dear to the brand at the Blitz.
4.64 m long, the new Astra station wagon is 60 mm shorter than the previous model. On the other hand, it is based on a longer wheelbase of 70 mm (2,732 mm), a wheelbase that has also gained 57 mm compared to that of the sedan, in favor of space for rear passengers.
In a 5-seater configuration, the trunk offers 608 liters of useful volume and up to 1,634 liters folded bench, a maneuver that releases a perfectly flat floor. With their lithium-ion battery under the floor, the plug-in hybrid versions offer charging volumes ranging from 548 to 1,574 liters.
The trunk volume of the combustion engine versions is optimised thanks to the optional “Intelli-Space” system. The position of this movable loading floor can be changed with one hand and move from high to low position, or placed at an angle of 45 degrees. In addition, for even greater convenience, the retractable luggage cover can be stored when the movable floor is in the high or low position – unlike competitors who only allow the luggage cover to be stored when the floor is in the high position.
In addition to hybrid propulsion, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer is available with particularly sober petrol and diesel engines. Power output ranges from 110 to 130 hp for thermal versions and up to 165 kW (225 hp) for plug-in hybrid versions. A 6-speed manual transmission is mated as standard to petrol and diesel engines, while an 8-speed automatic transmission (electrified on plug-in hybrids) is offered as an option on the most powerful engines.
