Report: US intelligence chief met Taliban leader in Kabul
Director of the CIA met with the leader of «Taliban» in Kabul
The Washington Post quoted US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, as saying that CIA Director William Burns met with Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Kabul on Monday.
This comes at a time when the Americans are intensifying their efforts to evacuate thousands of Afghans and foreigners from Kabul as soon as possible, after the “Taliban” movement warned that it would not allow these operations to continue except for one week.
A virtual G7 summit is being held in the afternoon to review the status of evacuations from Kabul airport, where thousands are still massing after the militants return to power, hoping to reach the West.
Several leaders of countries in the Group of Seven, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whose country currently holds the presidency of the group, may ask US President Joe Biden to keep his forces in Afghanistan beyond the deadline for the final withdrawal of August 31 (August) in order to complete these evacuations .
Biden had set this date for the final withdrawal of US and foreign forces from Afghanistan.
The Americans have evacuated 48,000 people since the airlift began on August 14, on the eve of the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul, including 11,000 within 12 hours, Monday, the White House announced. Thousands more were evacuated by other allied nations.
