The Nissan Qashqai stands out for its driving aids
As part of its ongoing evaluation of assisted driving technology, Euro NCAP tested the roadside assistance systems offered on four recent cars. The Nissan Qashqai and the VW ID.5 proved to be the most efficient.
Euro NCAP evaluates assisted driving systems outside the usual global rating system. The tests include a series of critical driving scenarios aimed at showing how effectively the system is able to help the driver avoid a possible accident. It also assesses how the driver and the system cooperate, and how the system ensures that the driver remains engaged in his or her driving. Finally, the vehicle’s ability to mitigate the consequences of an accident is tested, in case it is unavoidable.
The new Nissan Qashqai, already very successful in the Euro NCAP overall safety rating, stood out in this series of assisted driving tests. The ProPILOT system with Navi Link has demonstrated an excellent balance between driver assistance and over-dependence prevention. But it is in the field of passive safety that the car really excels, with an almost perfect percentage of 93%.
The VW ID.5, which shares its platform with the ID.3 and ID.4, also scored well with a high level of driver assistance, but never promoted overconfidence. As for the Polestar 2 tested last year, its device has been updated to offer better assistance in corners. Its results have therefore gone from “average” to “good”.
