With the 408, Peugeot innovates and places itself between the sedan and the SUV

CAR Two plug-in hybrid engines and a petrol engine are offered. A 100% electric version is also being studied


Not quite an SUV but not a sedan either. With the 408, Peugeot launches a new model with lines never before seen in its range.The French manufacturer is positioned here between its SUV 3008 and its sedan 308, in particular its estate version, the 308 SW, reports BFMTV. The 408 is 4.69 meters long compared to 4.63 meters for the 308 SW and 4.45 meters for the SUV.

Soon a 100% electric version

In the cabin, the driver will be entitled to the latest version of the Peugeot 3D i-cockpit and a compact steering wheel. The vehicle only has an eight-speed automatic transmission and three engines are available at the moment. Two plug-in hybrid engines – one with 180 horsepower and the other with 225 horsepower – and a 130-horsepower petrol engine. Exit the diesel so.

Peugeot also intends to offer a 100% electric version in the future. A necessity if the brand wants to respect its commitment to offer a zero-emission range by 2025, ten years before the ban on sales of new combustion cars in Europe.

Peugeot has not communicated the price of this 408 which will be assembled at the Stellantis plant in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin). The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2023.
